Asset Management
To ensure customers can plan for the lifecycle of business assets, a detailed understanding of short, medium and long-term asset behaviour and condition is essential. Corus applies both theoretical and practical investigative techniques to enhance understanding of the in-service performance of the complete railway system. Understanding system behaviour in detail ensures we can develop bespoke strategies for customers to improve operational efficiency and network integrity.
Accurate information on asset condition and performance leads to informed decision-making regarding track inspection, maintenance and renewal activities. Data is collected by the railway industry in huge quantities every day, describing asset characteristics and selected performance measures. The true benefits of data capture can only be realised through intelligent data analysis and interpretation. We have the specialist skills required to convert asset data into meaningful information and knowledge, using a wide range of data analysis techniques.
One such technique, track segmentation, has been developed by Corus as a tool for defining groups of track ‘segments’ with common characteristics. Inspection and maintenance strategies are correspondingly tailored to each group of ‘segments’ with the objective of reducing maintenance costs and maximising network availability, within the practical constraints of the operating railway.
