GrantRail to work on the Integrated Kent Franchise

04 Nov 2005

HSBC Rail (UK) has awarded the DEPCO consortium a major contract for the design and construction of two traincare facilities associated with the Integrated Kent Franchise.

The project, with an overall value of £87 million, represents the third traincare development on which the DEPCO consortium has collaborated, bringing the total value of projects the team has worked together to over £150 million.  The project will create a new depot in Ashford while enabling maintenance activity to continue at Ramsgate. This will represent a further significant step in bringing fast London services to east Kent. The consortium comprises HSBC Rail (employers and developers); GrantRail (rail contractors); Fitzpatrick Contractors (design and build contractors); Burks Green (architects and engineers); EMCOR Rail (M&E services designers and subcontractors); Mace (project managers) and Norton Rose (legal advisers).  Funding for this project has been arranged through Lloyds General Leasing.

Speaking about the project, Jaap de Jong, Managing Director of GrantRail London Networks, said “We are delighted to announce this further success for the DEPCO consortia and to be working again for HSBC Rail (UK) Ltd in the delivery of further infrastructure enhancements for the Department for Transport Rail Group. The construction has already commenced and is due to be completed in 2007”.

GrantRail is a 50% joint venture business between Corus and Volker Stevin.
