Corus wins Channel Tunnel high Speed line contact

03 Feb 2005

FebCorus is delighted to announce it has successfully won a contract to supply 10kt of rail to construct the new high-speed route from North Kent to St Pancras as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.

The contract, won after aggressive competition, will see Corus supply rail in 216m lengths up to May 2005. The rail will be manufactured in Workington in 36m lengths and will be welded into longer lengths of 216m at Corus’ welding facility in Castleton.

The rail specified by the customer, ACT, (Alstom, Carillion and TSO) must meet exacting standards of quality including ultrasonic testing of the welds in addition to providing a weld identity database.

Geoff Suitor, Commercial Director said “This is a great contract to win as it proves the quality and integrity of our products. One of the main challenges this contract brings is the complex logistics needed to make it a success. Using 36m rail will help us deliver this contract in an effective and efficient way for the customer.”
