Castleton Long Welded Rail Depot

Corus provided design and project management for upgrading the Castleton Welding Plant to accommodate Network Rail's request for 72m in-feed rail length to 216m output rail length.

The work also involved upgrade of the production equipment to provide state of the art technical performance and involved Corus staff from York, Castleton and Workington.

The upgraded facility gave Corus the capability to supply long welded rail to the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and other major projects, and is a positive response to address industry supply issues raised after the introduction of Network Rail's National Recovery Plan.
